I guess everyone has to grow up eventually. Even being a legend and practically walking on water in one of the best college towns in the country lacks the power of the holy grail. Nope... I was sad enough that all the '04s were leaving for the NBA, fretting watching basketball next season.
But now, what we all thought would never come to fruition finally did. Billy the kid has aspired to become Billy the emotionally drained, old, tired and most likely unsuccessful. I mean, let's be frank here, there's no need to put icing on this cake. He doesn't have NBA experience. He'll be coaching a team with crappy players who will make even more money than the monumentally staggering salary he's been reported to have accepted - $6 million a year for 6 years. Even though only 2 coaches in the NBA have even been with a team for more than 5. And considering the fact that he already regrets the small amount of time he spends with his family, quadrupling the number of his away games and doubling his weekly games won't ameliorate a thing. I can't say I condone his choice.
But again, he's a big boy now. I know pretty much anyone would jump at the fact to double their salary. But when you're already making $3 million a year, is there really even a noticeable difference in your quality of life? I just don't get it... and if Anthony Grant doesn't decide to jump at an offer from UF, the basketball program will be in shambles - along with the baseball program.
Oh well, cest la vie. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to express my sadness that the greatest coach of any sport in the history of the University of Florida has parted with us. Goodbye, Billy D.
